Fall 2025 Fluorescence Microscopy Crash Course
REGISTER IS NOW CLOSED
Fluorescence microscopy is a powerful and highly quantitative technique that enables researchers to explore critical questions across biology, medicine, chemistry, and materials science. The scope of what can be investigated through fluorescence microscopy is continually expanding due to the continued evolution of new technologies and new imaging methods. But , mastering this field requires more than curiosity—it demands precision. The complexity of fluorescence microscopy, combined with the need for careful experimental design, creates a steep learning curve for new microscopists.
To support both new trainees and experienced researchers seeking to broaden their microscopy expertise, Micrographia@Western is offering a comprehensive two-day course on November 6–7, 2025. This immersive training will provide participants with the essential skills and knowledge to confidently design, execute, and analyze fluorescence microscopy experiments with rigor and reproducibility.
🔬 What You’ll Learn
This hands-on course covers the fundamentals of microscopy, including:
- Core principles and imaging modalities
- Experimental design tailored for microscopy
- Sample preparation techniques
- Best practices for image acquisition
- Hands-on training in image analysis and machine learning, using free and open-source software packages that can be deployed in any lab or facility
👩🔬 Who Should Attend
Whether you’re a new trainee or a seasoned researcher venturing into microscopy for the first time—or expanding your current capabilities—this course is for you. While this course takes place on the campus of Western University, instruction is provided in a vendor- and facility-neutral manner, allowing you to apply what you learn to any imaging facility or lab. Our goal is to empower participants to design and execute rigorous, quantitative microscopy-based experiments across diverse sample types and technologies.
🌟 Extras
In addition to two days of instruction by microscopy experts, participants will also receive:
- A sample preparation protocol booklet.
- A memory stick containing useful information, analysis software, and sample data sets.
- Swag.
- Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion.
